Orange Lemon - Dreams of Santa Anna / The Texican (1988)

Well this is my first post peeps, I somehow feel that I'm talking to myself, I guess I am actually. Anyway forgive me for feeling somewhat sentimental as I've just realised that I first heard this track when I was 17, finishing high school and looking forward to University! The year was 1988 and dance music was just dance music, anything that had a hint of a drum machine was simply placed into the dance bucket. So simple and straight forward, especially when you see how many genres we have to deal with these days.

Anyway, this is a Todd Terry production, I'd say its one of my all time favourites from him actually. Of course 'Weekend' is right up there but most of his later stuff just got a wee bit too fluffy for my liking. I've always been drawn towards the B side, 'The Texican' should be your first port of call, there's just something about that riff. Enjoy.

  1. I guess song selection for your blog is as important as building a crowd at a gig. I still "feel it" when I hear the opening sequence of the Jungle Brothers "I'll house you". Thanks Todd and thanks Tone.
